-まずは自己紹介をお願いします。
M: 現在ニューヨークに住んでいる、オランダとカナダ人のハーフMarcelです。モデルをしていて、ニューヨークに住み始めて、１６歳から写真の活動もしています。
A: テキサスで育ち、１６歳のときモデルを始めました。１８歳のときにニューヨークに引っ越して、そのときからほとんどここにいます。
-どういうきっかけで日本を好きになったのですか？
M: 実は、昔から黒澤明の映画をみていたんだ。だから日本の歴史、宗教の中の不思議な神道も結構好きです。日本のことはなんでも好きだと思います。建築学、料理、インテリアデザイン、アート、言語（日本語）とかね…
A: 初めての海外旅行はTEEN VOUGEの撮影で行った東京でした。５日間東京で過ごして、好きじゃないところは何もなかった！日本のエネルギーはすごく特別で、今までに感じたことがなかったわ。日本は私にとって全く違う世界なんだけど、同時にアットホームな感じもしているの。
-もし日本に来られるとしたら、一番何がしたいですか？
M: 今までに何回も行ったことがあるんだ。2010年には三ヶ月間、2011年と2012年には両方一ヶ月間くらい居たよ。もし11月か12月に日本に行ったら、友達が僕のことをを荒木経惟のバーに誘ってくれるかもしれないから、楽しみにしています。
A: 朝まで遊んで、道に迷って、帰る道を探しながら、焼き芋売りの車を見つけて焼き芋を食べたいです。
-好きなもの（ファッション、本、映画、音楽等）について教えて下さい。
M: 好きなものは映画、ファイナル・ファンタジー、スパイダーマン、あとはやっぱり写真に関すること。
A: 私の好きなものは、綾波レイ、寄せ鍋、馬、一人でいることと、人と一緒にいること。
-普段は何をして遊んでいますか？また、何をしている時が幸せですか？
M: 暇なときはAliの写真を撮ることと、僕の猫と遊ぶことが好きだよ。テレビゲームをするのも好きで、オンラインゲームで今は離れている昔の友達と連絡を取ったりするよ。一番幸せなときは、健康で、周りの大切な人がみんな嬉しいと私も嬉しいです。
A: 一番幸せなときは、多分今の時を生きているって感じがするときかな。仕事で実質的なプロジェクトをやっているときとか、友達にアドバイスしてあげるときとか、一人でご飯を食べているときとか… 違うことを沢山しているとそういう気持ちになるの。もし私が幸せになろうと思えば、何をしていても幸せになれると思います。
-お互いの好きなところを教えて下さい。
M: 僕がAliのことが好きな理由は、彼女は不思議な人だから。いつも自分らしくて、とても素直な性格なんだ。
A: Marcelが好きな理由は、今まで出会った人と比べて、彼はすごく個人的な立場から色々なことを見ている気がするの。彼の目からこの世界を見るのが大好きです。
-大切なことを3つ挙げて下さい。
M: 僕にとって３つの大切なことは、天気の移り変わり、毎日新しいこと学ぶこと、あまり速く判断しないことだよ。
A: 思いやりの心を持つこと、全ての経験から何かを学ぶこと、母に電話することです。
-日本にはあなたたちのファンがいっぱいいます。日本のみんなへメッセージはありますか？
M: 日本人のファンが何人かいると思うんですが、今やっていることが仕事としてできると幸せで、こんなに素敵なファンが応援してくれるとすごく嬉しくなるよ！日本人のファンの皆さんは本当に素敵な国に住んでいるよね、だからいつか会えるといいな！

-これまでのあなたの作品の中でお気に入りの写真を教えて下さい。
M: 今の一番好きな写真はAliが消防車と一緒にいる写真かな。
-どういう時にシャッターを切ろうと思いますか？
M: 今見えることを写真で残したいんだ。カメラで撮った写真と自分の記憶の中にある色がなかなか同じにならなくて、だから自分が見た記憶とぴったりに写真を撮ることができると、それはもう完璧だよ。

-モデルの仕事の好きなところ、嫌いなところは何ですか？
A: モデルの仕事のおかげで今の人生はこういうことになって、人々に知ってもらえていることもそうだし、それが一番好きなところね。予測不能なスケジュールが一番嫌い。
-モデルの仕事をする上で、大切にしていることを教えて下さい。
A: モデルとしての一番大切なところは、チームと一緒に、彼らのヴィジョンを成し遂げるようにするために頑張ること。皆と一緒にワクワクしてプロジェクトで動いて、想像したことよりよくなると、それは本当にやりがいを感じるの。
-Could you tell us about yourselves?
Marcel: I’m a Dutch/Canadian living in NYC. I started living in NYC modeling and I’ve been practicing Photography since I was 16.
Ali: I grew up in Texas, started modeling at age sixteen, moved to New York at eighteen and have pretty much been here since.
-What made you interested in Japanese culture?
M: When I was younger I watched a lot of Akira Kurosawa movies, I really like the History of Japan and the mysterious Religion of Shinto . I like almost everything that is Japanese, Architecture, Cuisine, Interior Design, Art, Language etc.
A: My first trip out of the United States was to Tokyo for Teen Vogue. I stayed there for five days and loved every second of it. The energy there is very special and unlike anything I’ve felt before. I strangely feel very at-home in Japan even though it is completely foreign to me.
-What is the first thing you would like to do, if you come to Japan?
M: I’ve visited several times now, 3 Months in 2010, 1 Month in 2011 and 2012. If I visit in November/December the one thing I would really like to do is see if one of my Japanese friends can invite me to Araki Nobuyoshi’s Bar!
A: I want to stay up all night, get lost and find a yakimo cart for a snack when finding my way home.
-What are your favorite things?
M: My favorite things are Movies, Final Fantasy, Spider-man and Photography.
A: My favorite things are Rei Ayanami, yosenabe, horses, being alone, and being with people.
-What do you usually do in your free time? What makes you the happiest?
M: In my free time I like to take pictures of Ali and spend time with my Cats. I play also video games and like to keep in touch with old friends who live far away by playing online with them. I’m happiest when I feel healthy and my friends and loved ones around me are happy.
A: I would say that I feel happiest when I feel like I am completely present. I have this feeling when doing many different things- doing work projects that I feel are substantial, giving a friend advice, or eating alone in a restaurant. I can be happy doing anything if I let myself.
-Please tell me what you like about each other.
M: I like Ali because she is weird. She also is true to herself, her personality is very genuine.
A: I like Marcel because he has a totally different perspective than anyone I’ve met and I love seeing the world through his eyes.
-For you, what are 3 of the most important things.
M: 3 Important things for me would be: Variety of Weather, To try to learn something everyday and Never to judge too quickly.
A: Be compassionate, learn from every experience, and call your Mom.
-There are many Japanese fans of yours, do you have a message for Japan?
M: I think there are a few Japanese fans of course, I’m so happy to be doing what I am doing and I’m glad to be supported by great fans. You live in an amazing Country and hopefully one day we will meet!

-Marcel, what is your favorite photo right now?
M: My favorite photo right now is the image of Ali with the firetrucks.
-What do you try to capture in your photography?
M: I like to capture what I see in reality. A lot of times a camera cannot give you the same memory or colors, but when I get a photo and it is accurate to what I remember and how I think I saw… then it’s perfect.
-Ali, What parts about modeling do you like the best, and what parts do you like the least?
A: My favorite part of modeling is that it’s brought me to be where I am now and to know the people who are in my life today. My least favorite part is having an unpredictable schedule.
-When working as a model, what do you think is the most important thing to remember?
A:The thing that is most important to me is working with the team to bring their vision to life. It’s really rewarding when everyone is excited about a project and it comes out better than anyone could have imagined.
Marcel Castenmiller was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1986. He grew up in Port Moody, British Columbia and currently lives in New York City. Beginning in 2004, he attended the Emily Carr Visual Arts Institution in Vancouver, He studied General Fine Arts with a focus in Animation however continually documenting his life with a camera. In 2007 Castenmiller moved to New York City.
Ali Michael was born in Texas in 1990 and was raised there riding horses and going to school. She was scouted in Dallas and did her first runway season at 16 years old. She has lived in New York full-time since she was 18.
