“Working mainly on music, but we also want to connect it to different ways of expression.”
They don’t hold on to the stereotype of music but create new forms of sounds, culture, and art which we have never seen.
Their flexibility and creativity will definitely go across generations and borders. It will even involve us in the future.

What do you think about the Tokyo music scene?

They say “today it is the age of band wars,” and I agree with that. The variety of artists is increasing more and more. You can see many artists whose ways of expression couldn’t be seen 5 or 10 years ago. For instance, there is a label composed only of women, and are artists who manage their own label as we do. I think artists who have flexible mind and don’t care only about their music but also how they want to be seen and how to differentiate increased. It has nothing to do with the size of a label, no matter which it is major or indie. I think this is a trend that occur in different places, all over the world. Connections beyond borders will create more and more new sounds.

Is there one special show that you feel especially memorable?

It’s the show in Osaka, in September 2016. I also remember that we made a blunder at the previous show. The show in Osaka was much livelier than we had expected, so I felt saved by that. I almost cried. After that we got to think more about how to entertain audience.

How do you create your view of the world with your music videos and your visual performances?

We dress as we like. We want to utilize each member’s background. I am particular about that WONK is the group composed of different “individuals.”
About a Music Video, we talk a lot to make it match the view of the world of the song.

Your ways to transmit music seems unconventional and unique.

We manage a label. We want to spread music which we like and return the sales and the results to the artists as much as possible. We want the music of our label to be listened to by many generations. We hope that people who listened to them will be pleased. We want to actively organize events, too. In addition, we want to deal with fashion, design, and so on. We want to connect music to different genres. Like launching a fashion brand.

Do you currently do such an activity?

I am originally a cook. So I try matters about cooking. And voice acting, and…… other than music, I try different things.
Our band leader DJs, too. The pianist is also a designer, The bassist is also active as a sound engineer, …… We want use each activity into our band.

Could you tell me your recommended artist?

MELRAW. Including MELRAW, all of the artists in our label, EPISTROPH are very cool. For example, Kouhei Ando is outstanding at both skill and live performance. Our contemporaries such as King Gnu and yahyel are really cool, too.
