During ten days in May 2015 the French artist K-NARF turned an Nb 110 tramcar into an imaginary néo-vintage photographic lab. It is the first time in the 110 years of Hong Kong tramway history that an artist has been given the opportunity to use a tramcar and make it into their very own art installation.

With hundreds of photographs of the streets of Hong Kong taken with an amateur digital camera, printed with a portable inkjet printer and a lot of packing tape the Tokyo based artist customized the interior of the tramcar to add an artistic element in the every-day life of the people in Hong Kong. The tramcar photograph installation is inspired by two of K-NARF’s earlier projects and is full of the experimental playfulness that all his work is known for. I’m sure it’s worth to visit Hong Kong for getting on that tramcar.
The moving photographic lab can be enjoyed for every day for six weeks(May 2nd –June 14th) by anyone travelling on the main tramway line from “Whitty St. Depot” to “Causeway Bay”.

At the same time, his recent art works “PHOTOGRAPHIC CONTRAPTIONS” are now on display at the Hong Kong stores of PIERRE HERME PARIS.

K-NARF
He explains himself as more of a “photograph maker” rather than a photographer, using tools and materials that you can find at your local hardware- or office supply store. One of his main traits is his use of packing tape on his photos printed on a simple inkjet printer. He held his first exhibition in Tokyo, he has been all over around the world showing his works at places such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Scottsdale, the Japan foundation for the arts and the Yves Klein Archives. He is currently living in Tokyo where he is running the art-book store and gallery 0FR Tokyo.
