音が色になる。感情が形を持つ。
韓国、香港、福岡、そして大阪万博へと活動の場を広げ続ける画家 MEG.が、東京・JULY TREEで個展「SONIC」を開催中。
今回の個展のテーマは「SONIC（音）」。曖昧な色と質感、そして自身の感情を掛け合わせて描く彼女の作品世界に迫る。
“曖昧さの中にある美しさ”をコンセプトに絵を描かれているとのことですが、 “曖昧さ”を見つける時に、大切にしていることは？
MEG.：
日常の出来事が積み重なることで生まれる“曖昧さ”や、自分の抱いた感情を掛け合わせて表現しようとしています。
“曖昧さ”とは、不確かであることを肯定することだと思っていて、絵を描く過程で感情の輪郭をなぞりながら、自分の存在を確かめているように感じます。
絵を描いたときに湧き上がる曖昧な感情は、自分の生き方と似ていて、曖昧な色使いやモチーフで描き始めても、作品として確立していく過程で、曖昧さの中にこそ面白さがあるなと感じています。
普段どんなインスピレーションを受け、作品の色彩やモチーフが生まれていますか？
MEG.：
日々、自分が感じる感情から影響を受けることが多いです。何かを見たときに感じた色の雰囲気や、そのときの気持ちによって描きたいモチーフを決めています。
例えば、電車に乗っていて吊り革を見たときに、「丸いものを描きたい」と思うことがあったり日常の中で目にしたものがどのように絵へと発展するかを考えることも多いです。
普段の生活の中で感じた感情を、色合いや画材のテクスチャーの柔らかさで表現してみたり、素材が混ざり合うことで生まれる偶然の表現を大切にしています。自分でも理由は分からないけれどいいなと感じる感覚をもとに、制作に取り組んでいるなと思います。
個展「SONIC」の開催が決まり、どのような思いで制作に臨まれましたか？
MEG.：今回の展示では、音や音楽をテーマに作品を制作しました。
これまで、自分の絵を見た方から「アーティストのジャケットのようだ」と言われることがあり、そこから音を題材にした作品づくりを始めるきっかけになりました。
音楽が人の感情に影響を与えるように、私の絵も誰かの心を刺激するような存在になれたらと思っています。
今回は、曖昧でありながらも、心を動かす作品を作りたいと考え、レコードケースをキャンバスに用いた作品も制作しました。この絵が音楽になったら、どんな曲になるのか、そんな想像を膨らませてもらえたら嬉しいです。

The sound becomes color. Emotions have a form.
MEG., a painter who continues to expand his activities to Korea, Hong Kong, Fukuoka, and Osaka World Expo.
Now the solo exhibition “SONIC” is being held at JULY TREE in Tokyo.
The theme of this solo exhibition is “SONIC”. Approaching the world of her work, which is drawn by multiplying ambiguous colors, textures, and her own emotions.
It is said that the picture is drawn with the concept of “beauty in ambiguity”, but what do you value when finding “ambiguity”?
MEG.:
I’m trying to express the “ambiguity” that arises from the accumulation of daily events and the emotions I have.
I think that “ambiguity” means affirming uncertainty, and I feel like I’m confirming my existence while tracing the outline of emotions in the process of painting.
The ambiguous emotions that spring up when I draw a picture are similar to my own way of life, and even if start drawing with ambiguous colors and motifs, establishing yourself as a work,
there is fun in the ambiguity.
What kind of inspiration do you usually receive and the colors and motifs of your work are born?
MEG.:
Every day, I am often influenced by the emotions .
I decide the motif I want to draw based on the color atmosphere I felt when I saw something and my feelings .
For example, when I see hanging leather on the train, I sometimes think “I want to draw something round”, and I often think about how what I see in my daily life will develop into a picture.
I try to express the emotions I felt in my daily life with the softness of the color and texture of the art material, and I value the accidental expression that comes from the mixing of materials. I don’t know why myself, but I’m working on the production based actually feel good.
When the solo exhibition “SONIC” was decided to be held, what kind of thoughts ?
MEG.: In this exhibition, we created works with the theme of sound and music.
now, people who have seen my paintings have said that it looks like an artist’s jacket, and from there, it was the trigger to start making works based on sound.
Just as music affects people’s emotions, I hope my paintings can be something that stimulates someone’s heart.
This time, I wanted to make a work that was ambiguous but moved my heart, so I also made a work using a record case as a canvas. If this picture becomes music, I would be happy if you could imagine what kind of song it will be.
