イギリスを拠点に活動するニューヨーク出身のフォトグラファーValerie Phillipsは、大小問わず幅広くカルチャー誌やファッション誌等の撮影、Dr.Martensなどの広告撮影、個人の作品づくりにも力を入れており、Wooly vol.26でもインタビューが掲載された。今回記念すべき10冊目の写真集を発売し、それに合わせて来日、サイン会を行う。
彼女の作品はティーンらしいあどけない可愛さかつどこか大人な美しさを兼ね備えた女の子をモデルに起用することが多い。今回の作品はロンドン出身のAliceという女の子がモデル。ロンドン旅のツアーガイドとなって、実際地元の人しかしらないようなお店や彼女のうちで撮影しているため、私たちもローカルなロンドンを旅した気分になれるというコンセプトになっている。Aliceが着ている服も、いろいろなチャリティショップやValerieのワードローブから集めた、いかにもロンドンらしいファッションとなっている。
今回発売を記念し、BOOKMARCをはじめ、東京３箇所、大阪１箇所、合計４箇所でサイン会を行う。各会場ではデッドストックとなった過去の貴重な作品も販売されるので、是非この機会に手に取ってほしい。

ニューヨーク出身、ロンドンを拠点に活動。雑誌やレコードジャケットの写真を撮るためにロンドンに移り、自分のパーソナルプロジェクトを行いながらファッションと広告の写真を撮り続けた。まもなく写真集とZINEの自費出版に注力するようになり、2001年に最初の自費出版作品集を刊行、以来精力的に発表を続けている。

Valerie Phillips, from New York and now based in the UK, has worked for various culture and fashion magagzines, brands such as Dr. Martens and her own personal works, and Wooly interviewed with her for its vol.26 issue. This time she launches her tenth book, ‘Alice in Londonland’ in Japan at the Tokyo Art Book Fair, and visits Japan for book sigining.
She often features a girl with an innocent cuteness like a teenager and somehow a beauties of an adult.
The model this time is called Alice from London, and they become a tour guide in London and take us to a local places that only locals know or around her house. Alice is also dressed in London, finding all her outfits in various charity shops or pulled from Valerie’s wardrobe.
To celebrate the launch of the tenth book, Valerie holds book sigining session for three times in Tokyo and once in Osaka. You can find the dead-stock of her previous books as well, so don’t miss this chance.

Valerie Phillips grew up in New York City. Valerie’s work has been described as vibrant and unrestrained – a celebration of real life messiness and beauty. She is drawn to girls who have an amazing spirit and aren't afraid to show off their particular quirks and oddities off in front of the camera.
Her portrait of Sienna Miller is in the permanent collection of The National Portrait Gallery and she has exhibited in New York, London, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, and the small mid-western town of Cherryvale, Kansas.
