Can you guys tell us about the story behind this exhibition and works ?

Sone: This time I exhibit nine experimental photos in which food imitates bath goods.
I depicted normal bath room scene with food. I used sponge cake and whipped cream for the sponge, condensed milk for rinse, and popcorn for bubbles. It started when I put tomato on the tap. I thought it was cute and started playing with more food.
I usually take photos of nature. Well known photographers might take photos of beautiful mountains as they are and I like them but I want to capture a bit differently. For example, I tried to show something entirely different with the photo of coniferous forest.

Shibata: I took portrait photos of my friends while hanging out with them. They were taken naturally, not staged at all. I always carry my film camera when I go out so that I can be ready for any moments. Exhibited photos were chosen from a stuck of photos that I had kept since January. I actually take same amount of digital photos under specific themes, but I prefer film photos that I casually take in everyday life because the subjects look more relaxed and natural.

What do you guys think about the influence of social medias on photography?
Sone: Now there are tons of people who started photography because of the social media. I was one of them too and I do think it is great that more and more people are enjoying photography. It is important though to carefully think about what kind of photo I really want to take. It is undeniable that due to increasing popularity in photography people have better eyes. I need to consider how to make photos that stand out among crowds.

Shibata: What I think is that now anyone can be a photographer, but as how those “instagrammable” photos show, it is not really fun if everyone takes same kind of photos. Though I think Instagram is very convenient, I want viewers to feel the difference between insta photos and printed ones.

Any comments to the visitors?

This exhibition would be nice if you are interested in photos, and even nicer if this exhibition becomes someone’s first photo exhibition experience. It is not a very serious photo exhibition but rather a place where you will be able to meet new people.
