—What is your motto when you draw you illustrations?

I’m trying to keep the word ‘poison’ in my mind. I want a bit of a toxic feeling in my paintings, so i try to hold on to that imagery when I’m drawing. To put it simply, I want my scenery to have a malicious feeling. The idea for one of my illustrations as a simple little doodle. What influences that first doodle is most often magazines, movies and other things that I find cool. I also think a good bit of my inspiration comes from the painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. He draws mailnly posters, but his illustrations gives away very unique feeling. That kind of art with a crumbling but yet gorgeous feeling to them is something I love unbearably.

—Do you have any experiences from your childhood that you think has affected you and your work now?

The thing that really made me start drawing was when I got praised by my teacher. For me, to be praised by someone is something necessary, and it becomes my motivation for when I draw. In anyway I can, I want to make people amazed.

—What is something that you’ve been into lately?

Instagram, haha. To have people watch and like my pictures makes me happy. After all to be able to impress people, to be appreciated is something that makes me really happy. Also since I’m originally from Sapporo, I’ve been into sightseeing around Tokyo lately.

—Why did you become an illustrator?

Drawing was the only thing I was ever really good at. As I mentioned earlier, it all started with my teacher praising me. But after all, drawing was all I had really. I also get very emotional and excited whenever I finish an illustration.
Right now I’m both an illustrator and a graphic designer, but as a graphic designer all you do is follow someone else’s request. As a graphic designer, all that I want to do is honor their request to the best of my ability.

—What is your vision from here on?

I want to keep on impressing people, to make them think ‘I want her drawings’, ‘I wanna buy this’, ‘I really like this so I’m gonna buy it’. I want the things that I have created to be used by people. On the other hand, I want to take in someone else’s opinion and then elaborate upon it. I want to create new things. When asked to draw something, I want to work with the idea in a flexible way. I want to absorb other people’s ideas, their ways of thinking, and then, expand and elaborate upon them. I want to become an illustrator who is able to evolve and improve her illustrations.

—What are the good parts about the work you are doing now?

To be able to meet so many different people and influence their opinions and views.
